Edinburg sweeps Laredo

The Broncos are 0-4 heading into tonight's home opener against San Angelo at Veterans Field.

Edinburg won 14-8 last night to close the season-opening series. It was a brutal start for the Broncos, who will have former Nixon great and Latin Sports Hall of Famer Tano Tijerina on the mound for tonight's contest.

The Roadrunners won by scores of, in order, 10-6, 10-2, 8-7 and 14-8.

Yes, that's poor defense and so-so offense. Defense was a concern of Broncos General Manager Jose Melendez's entering the series and that certainly will continue to be the case.

The good news is that the Broncos were far from full strength against Edinburg.

They were missing core players Selwyn Langaigne and Luis Ugueto, and relievers Carlos Alvarez and Edgar Soto.

All four had missed the last few weeks due to visa issues but are expected to be in the lineup tonight.

For Melendez and his team, they could not be arriving at a better time.
