Broncos fall against Thunder

Robstown - The Laredo Broncos lost their fourth consecutive game on Sunday night, falling 7-1 to the Coastal Bend Thunder at Fairgrounds Field in Robstown.

The Broncos fell to 2-9 on the season as the Thunder improved to 6-5.

The final game of the four-game series is tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Coastal Bend jumped out on top in the first inning as it claimed a 2-0 lead courtesy of Amadeo Zazueta's two-run double.

The lead would bloom for good in the second inning, as Manny Mejia drilled his second homer of the season in grand slam fashion with two outs, putting the Thunder ahead 6-0.

The Broncos' lone run came in the third inning as they loaded the bases with one out.

With O.J. Garza forced out at second base, Kylee Hash would take advantage and score on the play.

It would be the last time the Broncos would cross home plate all night.

They threatened in the fifth inning when they had the bases loaded with two outs, but nothing came about as Andres "El Monkey" Santos flied out to end the threat.

Laredo would threaten one last time, this time in the seventh inning, when they put two runners on with one out.

Unfortunately, Mario Mendez followed with a strikeout and Argelis Nunez grounded out to end the inning, leading to the ejection of Luis Ugueto, who has been called out earlier in the inning on an attempted bunt hit when it had appeared that the Thunder first baseman came off the bag.

Broncos ace Ryan Harris, after the rough start, ended up getting tagged with the loss.

He pitched seven innings and gave up six runs - four earned - on seven hits.

He struck out three and walked one.

The Broncos scored one run on five hits and had four errors, while the Thunder scored seven runs on nine hits and accounted for just one error.
