Broncos fall four games back of Coyotes

Barring some remarkable rally that defies the complete essence of this season, the Broncos' season will end in seven games.

There will likely be no playoffs for the Gateway Gang after they fell four games behind Edinburg for the fourth and final playoff spot courtesy of an 8-3 loss in Edinburg on Saturday night.

Edinburg has won seven of its last 10 games during the heat of its playoff push, while Laredo has lost four of 10.

The Broncos struggled offensively, mustering just three hits in spite of taking a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning.

The Coyotes eventually took the lead for good in the seventh inning on Eric Gonzalez’s RBI double and Amado German’s sacrifice RBI.

Edinburg added three more runs in the eighth on Gary Roche’s two-run single and Argelis Nunez’s RBI single.

Broncos starter Andy Schon was tagged with the loss.

He threw 6 1/3 innings and surrendered five runs on nine hits.

He walked two and struck out three.

The Coyotes scored eight runs on 12 hits and committed one error.

Laredo committed two errors.

The teams will conclude their three-game set on Sunday in Edinburg. They’ll take Monday off before another three-game set at Veterans Field starting Tuesday.
