Broncos fall again, 6-5

I was unable to attend tonight's Broncos game due to having to man desk duties. But I'll be back at Veterans tomorrow.

Meanwhile, here's a short story of tonight's loss - the ninth in the last 13 games.

The Broncos lost their ninth game of their last 13 in stunning fashion on Wednesday, surrendering a five-run lead in the eighth inning to fall 6-5 to Amarillo at Veterans Field.

The Dillas will be looking for the series sweep against a floundering Broncos (36-44) club, which has lost five consecutive games.

Game 3 is slated for tonight. First pitch is set for 7:35 p.m.

The Broncos are now two games behind Edinburg, which defeated Alexandria earlier in the evening, for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Laredo led 5-0 before the Dillas stormed back, scoring six runs in the eighth against Broncos starter Gregorio Martinez, who dropped to 6-4 despite pitching brilliantly through the first five innings of the game.

Spurred by Danny Bravo’s two-run double and Stephen Douglas’ two-run single, the Dillas stormed back against Martinez, and Dave Wasylak, who came in with two outs to relieve Martinez.

Martinez pitched 7.2 innings, surrendering six runs – all unearned – on six hits.

He struck out eight and walked two.

Amarillo’s Taylor Allen earned the win.

He pitched seven innings and gave up five runs on eight hits.

He walked six and struck out three.

The Dillas took the same lead into the ninth, where the Broncos were unable to come away with a win.

Amarillo’s Ralph Roberts earned his eighth save of the season.

The Broncos scored five runs on nine hits and committed two errors.

The Dillas scored six runs on seven hits and committed one error.
