Broncos finish first half with win; Amarillo, San Angelo clinch playoff berths

The Broncos finished the first half of the season with a 22-23 record after defeating Alexandria, 3-0, on Saturday night.

Santo Hernandez (5-3) was dominant. And that's putting it lightly. The ace righty threw eight innings and surrendered four hits. He struck out 13 and walked four.

Luany Sanchez drilled his fourth homer of the season on a solo shot with one out in the seventh inning.

With the loss, Alexandria did not clinch a first-half playoff spot. Amarillo and San Angelo will have home-field advantage after finishing the first half of the season as the top two teams in United League Baseball.

The Dillas finished with a 27-17 record. The Colts finished 26-19.

At 25-19, Alexandria finished in third place. Laredo finished fourth at 22-23.

Harlingen and Edinburg were still playing as of this blog post. Either way, Harlingen will finish as the worst team in ULB, and neither reached 20 wins through their respective 45 games so far.
