Broncos fall as offense fails in 3-0 loss

Tim Haines pitched a complete shut out game to lead the Edinburg Roadrunners over the Laredo Broncos 3-0 Sunday night at Veteran’s Field.

Haines (4-3) got his fourth win of the season while scattering three hits and striking out a season high 13 hitters in nine innings pitched.

The Roadrunners (18-20) got the only runs of the ball game in the top of the first inning with Robert Matlock leading things off with a single to left field then moving to second base on a walk to Vincent Blue. Bryon Smith followed with an RBI double to right field that scored Matlock from second, followed by Carlos Hereaud driving in Blue from third with an RBI ground out for the second run of the inning. Osiel Flores capped the inning off with an RBI single to left field that scored Smith from third for the 3-0 lead.

The Broncos (13-25) could not get a base runner past second base against Haines eventually taking the 3-0 loss.

The Roadrunners and Broncos will play the third game of this four-game series Monday night at Veteran’s Field. Miguel Martinez (3-2) is expected to face Will Palmer (0-0) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
