Broncos come home after losing 3 of 4 on road

The Laredo Broncos gave up eight runs in the eighth inning as they lost to the Amarillo Dillas, 9-5, at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa on Sunday.

The Broncos fell to 15-29 as they start an eight-game homestand Monday against Rio Grande Valley at Veterans Field.

First pitch is slated for 7:30 p.m.

The Dillas improved to 24-20.

The starters were in control early on in the game as it was scoreless through the first four innings.

Broncos’ starter Will Palmer allowed five hits through his four innings.

He did not walk a batter and struck out two.

Justin Phillips only allowed one hit through his four. He walked three batters and struck out two.
The Broncos finally got to Phillips in the fifth, building a 2-0 lead on Jaime Morales’ RBI single and Ryan Flynn’s groundout RBI.

Palmer was taken out of the game after six innings of work, giving up no runs on seven hits.
He walked one and struck out two.

Jason Herman came in and allowed a Keanon Simon RBI single to cut Amarillo’s deficit in half.

The Broncos responded with a three-run eighth inning, highlighted by Argelis Nunez’s two-run double and Andres “El Monkey” Santos RBI single, to build a 5-1 lead.

But it all fell apart for the Broncos in the Dillas’ half of the eighth.

Amarillo flustered the Broncos bullpen of Fernando Rijo, Franklyn Gracesqui and Julio Pinto for eight runs in the inning, earning a dynamic come-from-behind win.

The Broncos scored five runs on nine hits and had three errors, while the Dillas scored nine runs on 14 hits and committed no errors.
