SAN ANGELO – The Broncos were on the short end of a slugfest on Wednesday night, falling to the San Angelo Colts 13-9.
Five home runs were slugged in the contest, with two coming from the Broncos’ Dwayne White and Edgard Clemente.
The Broncos fell to 28-27 while the Colts improved to 29-21.
After allowing three runs in the first inning, Broncos starter Gregorio Martinez left the game.
No reason was specified, but during the first inning, manager Dan Shwam and the trainer came out to take a look at Martinez.
Martinez gave up three runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out one in his shortest outing of the year.
The Colts exploded in the third inning.
Andres Rodriguez led off the inning with a solo home run. That was followed by another solo home run by Aaron Cone, his second of the game.
Charley Belew would then hit a sacrifice RBI before Tyrone Pendergrass drilled a RBI single.
It wasn’t over yet.
Jose Torres followed with a RBI double before Cone drilled his third homer of the game, a grand-slam shot Andres Rodriguez would then walk to load the bases.
By then, the damage was done and San Angelo held a 12-3 lead.
Billy McKinney (1-4) would earn the win while Nathan Crawford (0-1) would get tagged with the loss.
The Broncos scored nine runs on 13 hits and committed no errors.
The Colts scored 13 runs on 17 hits and committed two errors.
