Pre-game for Broncos vs. Colts, Game 1

The Broncos come into tonight's contest against San Angelo with a modest - very modest - one-game winning streak.

The Colts have lost two straight coming into tonight's game.

The Broncos are still one game ahead of Edinburg for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Alexandria, which had won seven straight before falling to Laredo last night, is hosting the Coyotes.

Should be interesting.

I was able to talk with Manager Dan Shwam and outfielder Dwayne White the past few days.

Here's what they've had to say:

Shwam on the team's altered offensive approach last night: "We did better things. I saw some good bunts, we moved guys over and guys were sacrificing, and I saw guys try and hit the other way. We were doing the right things. When we play small ball, we're a much better team."

Shwam on Edgard Clemente: "We go as far as he takes us. That's how good he is. When he hits, we're going to win. We count on him, and I know he doesn't like to hear that because it puts a lot of pressure on him. But he knows that. He is our guy and he makes this team work."

White on the team's offensive woes prior to last night's 10-hit, seven-run outing: "We're at a point where runs are becoming a bit scarce but we'll be alright. We know what we're capable of and I've seen us put up 10, 11 runs with ease so I know it's there. It's a long season and these things happen."

White on pressure from Edinburg: "It doesn't really get to me because I've been in so many close situations. The only thing you can do is take care of what you control. If we take care of our business, it doesn't matter what Edinburg does."

And that's that.

Here's tonight's Broncos lineup:

RF   Anthony Bennett
SS   Arnoldo Ponce
C    Luany Sanchez
DH Edgard Clemente
LF   Dwayne White
3B   Ben Tinius
2B   Ivan Reyes
1B   Johnny Lopez
CF   Steven Wright

Lefty Sean Donlin (2-2, 3.22 ERA, 34 Ks/15 BB in 7 games) is on the mound for the Broncos. His opponent is fellow lefty Logan Williamson (7-3, 4.09).
