Broncos top Colts

SAN ANGELO — The Laredo Broncos started their 12-game road trip with a victory as they beat the San Angelo Colts by a score of 4-2 at Foster Field on Tuesday.

The Broncos (20-33) struck first in the second inning. With two outs, Andres “El Monkey” Santos smacked a solo home run, his sixth of the season. Robert Moron followed with a double and then scored on a double by O.J. Garza, giving Laredo a 2-0 lead.

The Colts (36-17) got on the scoreboard in the fourth, as Jason Landreth led off with a solo home run, his 14th of the season, to cut the lead in half.

The Broncos added to their lead in fifth. Jaime Morales singled with one out, then stole second base. Luis Ugueto then singled to move Morales to third base. Ugueto didn’t stay at first long, stealing second on the first pitch. David Cardona then hit a two-run single, scoring both Morales and Uguetoto make the score 4-1.

San Angelo scored again in its half of the fifth. With one out, Travis Calloway hit a solo home run, his first of the season, making the score 4-2.

Laredo threatened to extend its lead in the sixth. Argelis Nuñez doubled to start the inning, then went to third on a single by Luany Sanchez. Santos then drew a walk to load the bases and chase starter Chandler Barnard from the game.

Jacob Ramos entered for the Colts in relief and got out of the jam without allowing a run.

Luis Arroyo started the game for the Broncos and pitched seven solid innings. He gave up two runs on six hits and four walks and struck out six. Julio Pinto came out to start the eighth inning.

Pinto pitched a scoreless eighth, then Franklyn Gracesqui came in to close out the ballgame.

Gracesqui pitched a 1-2-3 inning to seal the win for the Broncos.

Laredo scored four runs on 11 hits and had no errors, while the Colts scored two runs on seven hits and had 0 errors.

The teams will play Game 2 of their four-game series tonight at 7:05 p.m.
