Broncos lose 13th straight

The Broncos continued their downward spiral on Tuesday night, falling to the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, 2-1, at Veterans Field.

It was their 13th consecutive loss.

Laredo fell to 21-46 while Rio Grande Valley improved to 32-35.

The WhiteWings started the scoring in the second inning.

Welison Baez was on first base after a single when Jose Torres singled as well.

Baez headed for third base, and the throw by Argelis Nunez from right field missed everyone.

Baez ended up scoring to give Rio Grande Valley the 1-0 lead.

The WhiteWings added to their lead in the third, when Brian Nichols hit a RBI single that scored Augstin Septimo to make it 2-0.

The Broncos finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth.

Jaime Morales hit a solo home run, his second of the season.

Broncos starter Gregorio Martinez pitched seven solid innings.

He gave up two runs, one of which was earned, on seven hits.

He walked three and struck out six.

Fernando Rijo came in to pitch the eighth.

Rijo pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings as the Broncos trailed by one run heading to the bottom of ninth.

Wendy Rosa, who came into the game in the seventh for the WhiteWings, came in looking to close it out, and he did as the Laredo went down quietly.

The Broncos scored one run on five hits and had three errors.

The WhiteWings scored two runs on seven hits and had two errors.

The finale of the four-game series is tonight at Veterans Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
