Broncos move back to .500 with exhilarating ninth

The Broncos snapped a skid in which they had lost five of six games, pulling out a 4-2 win over Edinburg on Saturday in dramatic fashion by scoring three runs in the ninth inning.

With the win, the Broncos moved back to .500 at 29-29.

Edinburg, the second-worst club in United League Baseball, fell to 23-33.

The teams will conclude their brief two-game series today in Edinburg before taking the next three days of for the ULB All-Star break.

The Broncos’ David Wasylak (3-0) earned the win in relief. Julio Castro (1-3) got the loss.

Both starting pitchers were sharp through the first three innings.

Coyotes starter Miguel Martinez only allowed two baserunners in his first four innings of work.

Andy Schon, the starter for the Broncos, matched Martinez as he also had allowed only two baserunners thru his three innings of work.

However, unlike Martinez, Schon ran into trouble in the fourth inning as Edinburg took a 1-0 lead on Eric Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly.

The game would remain that way until the bottom of the seventh inning when Schon ran into trouble again when he walked Robert Matlock to force in Amado German from third base for a 2-0 Coyotes lead.

Wasylak would then come in for Schon, who ended up throwing 6 1/3 innings, surrendering two runs, none earned, on eight hits.

He walked two and struck out 10.

Martinez also left the game in the seventh.

The Broncos would cut their deficit in half on Edgard Clemente’s RBI single with two outs in the eighth.

The Broncos took the lead with a dynamic, three-run ninth.

Matt Lawman would score to tie the game on a Coyotes error before Ponce added a clutch two-run double.

Wasylak secured the bottom of the inning.

The Broncos scored four runs on seven hits and committed two errors while the Coyotes scored two runs on nine hits and committed two errors.
