United League Baseball announced on Tuesday that the San Angelo Colts and Alexandria Aces will join the Amarillo Dillas in postseason play. The Dillas are the top seed after winning the first half with a 27-18 record, and the Colts, who finished with the exact record as the Aces, will be the second seed and host the first-round playoff series.
With the Colts and Aces tied after 45 games, the second playoff spot was awarded to the Colts via a fan-based tie breaker.
“This is the first time we had two teams with identical records at mid-season,” explained league Founder Brad Wendt, “and consistent with our philosophy that our teams begin with the fans, the League awarded the home playoff series to the team with the highest attendance.”
The Aces, United League Baseball’s back-to-back defending champions, won the third playoff spot and will travel to either Amarillo or San Angelo for the first round of the playoffs.
The Laredo Broncos, Edinburg Coyotes, and Harlingen WhiteWings are now playing for a fourth and final playoff spot. The team with the best overall winning percentage at the end of the 90-game regular season receives the fourth post-season berth.
